A Place for Your Flowers

A friend related her delight at having an interior designer curate the collections in her home. My friend had nowhere to hang a new work of art, so she sought professional help. After purging the tired memorabilia, rehanging the treasures, and moving some furnishings, the interior designer announced, “And this will be where you will put your fresh flowers.”

It doesn’t take an interior designer to deputize you to be a flower buyer. You don’t even have to be rich. For the price of a pizza or a bottle of wine, you can have a new bouquet every week. My business model emphasizes flower subscriptions, because I can make flowers affordable by having a regular drop off point and making bouquets in batches. I’m selling four weekly garden fresh bouquets for $100, because I believe in living with flowers. For me, it’s living the dream.

If you’re wondering where you would put flowers, join my tour of flower places in my home.

You will be greeted by flowers upon arrival at my front door. This CB2 faux stump painted silver sits next to a post that marks the entry of my home.

The CB2 faux stump moves to my office when I have blooms with an intoxicating fragrance like these lilacs.

My go-to flower pedestals are concrete cylinders from CB2. They are left and right of the dining room window. Lefty, shown here, is 25 inches tall.

The concrete pedestal known as Righty is 32 inches tall because I avoid symmetry whenever possible. I welcome taxidermy whenever possible. Antler sheds go well with flowers.

I realize not everyone installs metal siding in the dining room, but surely there is a place in your house for hanging things. These bud sconces are from CB2 and hang from chains on S hooks. The peonies are from my garden, of course.

Flowers and bleached skulls always remind me of Georgia O’Keefe. Have taxidermy? Add flowers. This is on a Heywood Wakefield sideboard in my dining room. I always add a glass plate to protect vintage wood surfaces.

Thanks for visiting.
